We've been feeling a little cramped around our old dining table, designed to seat 8, now that we have ten eating at the table. We've talked for years about how to find a table that would suit our needs and decided that my husband would build one.
Last fall, we bought two pedestals on Ebay for an amazing steal (the guy only made $10 on each of them after he paid for shipping), and this past month, this is what my husband created for our family:

It's actually two tables hooked together. Each square table seats eight, and pushed together, they seat 12 or more comfortably. When we have guests or want more flexibility, we can unhook the two tables and seat four more people.
I'm loving the table! I love that it has a mixture of both dark and light wood. It ties the maple we have in the kitchen with the cherry we have in the neighboring great room, and gives us the flexibility to switch to another chair color or style later on if we like.

When Cami was eleven days old, DH took the six oldest kids to California for eight lovely days. I stayed home with Harmony, Katie, and Cami and thoroughly enjoyed a restful week. It's interesting how life with lots of kids changes your capacity and your perspective. I think if DH had proposed leaving me alone with three kids just after our third was born, I would have taken off his head. But this trip was taken with my consent and encouragement.
DH saw to it that the house was clean before he left, and it stayed that way. I ran the dishwasher twice and enjoyed the break from my regular responsibilities.
The main reason for the trip was to visit my husband's grandma, who was celebrating her 90th birthday:

Katie told me at least ten times a day, "Daddy gone. Daddy gone." The homecoming was so sweet, as she and Harmony gave all their siblings and their dad a hero's welcome. Here's Harmony talking to her dad on the phone the day before he returned:

Back when we had one girl and two boys, my husband and I made a deal: he'd get the boys in our family ready for Church, while I'd help the girls.
Seemed like a pretty good deal at the time.
Well, since that deal was made, we've had six more girls join our family.
Which means that there's quite an assembly line of hair to do come Sunday morning.
On Sunday, I did Sarah's hair first. All the other girls liked it so much they wanted to match.
